We’re not going anywhere.

Here are four things we’re amplifying!

We’re not going anywhere / Analyses of book bans / The role of federal funding / Join the beloved community

We as an organization aren’t moving or changing our language. After taking a survey of the lay of the land, we noticed that changing our language and how we discuss our work is a real misstep. They even said that, if we change our language, they’ll ban that, too.

Nah.

The easiest thing to say is that, yes, a plethora of places didn’t implement their “DEI” initiatives well enough to take hold in schools and places of work.

But to say that diversity, equity, and inclusion are bad ideas is where we hold the line. As believers in racial justice and human rights, we all have a role to play in upholding our shared humanity.

We’re doubling down on empathy, justice, and mutual cares.

The ability to name anti-Blackness, transphobia, xenophobia, and imperialism —among too many other oppressions— doesn’t hamper the work we do with students and schools. In fact, it makes it better.

Our students and our communities deserve better, and EduColor stands “ten toes down” in holding people accountable to that.

Call it what you will, but our educators know what we’re talking about. I hope you’ll join us in that fight wherever you are.

Analyzing Book Bans

PEN America has been doing great work in keeping track of book bans across the country. Many of our favorites are in here, but this is also a good list for developing great syllabi and curricula. Read on!

What We’re Reading

In what feels like another dimension in our multiverse, here’s research on the role of federal funding we found helpful. Time and again, the research coming out of the last few years shows that elevating economic concerns actually matters for racial and social justice.
