Mid-August Check-In

August 15, 2019

August is always an interesting time of the year. For some educators, August is the beginning of the school year: meeting new students and reconnecting with old; finding the balance between setting up a learning space while leaving room for young people to take ownership; grinding out lesson plans and curricular units yet knowing the exact time to let it all go in honor of the moment. Meanwhile, other educators are holding onto the last moments of summer while anticipating another year of difficult but important work.

In between all of this, EduColor has continued to engage in the work of educational equity and justice. We held our third summit in Chicago, where members came together to break bread, share stories, and plan for the year ahead. We talked policy, pedagogy, and #EduColor chats. There’s much more to be said, but for now, be on the lookout for some big EduColor news as we bring 2019 home.

And there’s new EduColor merchandise that, if you can believe it, is even hotter than ever before. Get your exclusive collaboration merchandise with EduColor and The Kid Mero right here. You’ve seen the #EduColor team wear it on your favorite social media platform, and now’s your opportunity to support the work of students, families, and communities.

There’s a lot still to come from EduColor in our regular newsletter, dropping the first of the month, every month. While we’ll continue to feature some of your favorite newsletter content – writing from our members, materials we are reading, and links to our website – we’ll also be adding new content to deepen the connections between EduColor, our schools, and our communities. Below you’ll find some of the exciting new elements of the newsletter and what you can expect from each of them.

In whatever learning space you are, EduColor continues to honor the wins and hold space for the struggles in bringing our schools and society to a more just and equitable place. The work continues. For us. By us. About us.

In solidarity and love,
EduColor Steering Committee
Pedagogy Gang! Ah Ah Ah!!!
